Mechanism of Action
GHRP-2 is a direct agonist of the ghrelin receptor on pituitary somatotrophs, producing a brisk GH pulse. Unlike GHRH analogs, its effect is partially regulated by somatostatin tone.

Human pharmacodynamic studies from the 1990s established GH release, but development did not progress to approval. Current interest is almost entirely outside regulated medicine.
Safety and Side Effects
Cortisol and prolactin elevation at higher doses were observed in early studies. It is prohibited in sport as a growth hormone releasing factor.
