Semaglutide Dosing Education: How Titration Works

This page explains how semaglutide dosing is structured — for education only. It deliberately does not publish personal dosing guidance: semaglutide is a prescription medicine and doses belong to prescribers.

Why dosing starts low

The dose-escalation schedule (increasing every four weeks toward the maintenance dose) exists because GI tolerability is dose-dependent. Starting at the maintenance dose predictably maximizes nausea.

Approved dose ranges

Wegovy (weight management): maintenance doses up to 2.4 mg weekly. Ozempic (type 2 diabetes): up to 2.0 mg weekly. Rybelsus (oral): titrated to 14 mg daily. Different indications, different maxima — the label is the reference.

Why weekly timing matters

The ~1-week half-life supports weekly dosing; missed-dose rules in the label exist to avoid doubling up after long gaps. Consistency matters more than clockwork precision.

Why we stop here

Publications that go further — dose-finding for compounded product, self-titration schedules — describe a different product category (unregulated) and a different risk world. The evidence on this site describes approved medicine.

Educational content only — not medical advice. Dosing and treatment decisions belong with the approved label and a prescriber.
